A Barcelona native is expected to get more recognition with the national squad

Despite missing a few weeks due to an injury he has improved and has more often than not scored goals and the club has greatly benefited from his directness.

He is Hansi Flick's top pick for the attacking midfield even ahead of Dani Olmo, and has already scored six goals and supplied four assists.

Notoriety for La Roja

According to a recent SPORT story Luis de la Fuente has been closely monitoring Fermin's growth and performance and as a result his role with the Spanish national team is now expected to improve.

The young player has only been in three games for Spain thus far but he has substituted in each of them, playing 79 minutes total.

Spain's matches against Georgia and Turkey during the current international break are expected to change that status.

Fermin will play a larger role with Spain.

La Roja has called up the La Masia star who is expected to be the team's main offensive midfielder this time around given Pedri's injury and Olmo's lack of conviction.

Even if Fermin isn't yet a de facto starter he will surely play a bigger role for La Roja than he has in the past. His quality and advancement are valued by the manager and if he maintains his current level, opportunities will continue to present themselves.

Given Spain's relative dearth of resources in the area, De la Fuente apparently adores the midfielder's goal-scoring talent and even views him as an outright striker. He wants to make the most of Fermin's peak performance since he knows it.

Needless to say everyone will be watching to see how many minutes the young player plays for Spain in the upcoming week. His ascent could not have come at a more favorable moment, as the FIFA World Cup is approaching.
