Kim receives a rise of $4 million. He had accepted a two-year, $29 million contract with Tampa Bay in February, which paid him $13 million, but he had turned down a $16 million player option. On Monday night, the Braves made their new agreement with Kim official.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos stated that prior to the one-year arrangement, a long-term contract with Kim was negotiated. Anthpoulos expressed his continued hope that Kim's homecoming will result in "hopefully a longer marriage here."

The Rays and Braves claimed the 30-year-old South Korean off waivers on September 1st after he batted.234 with five home runs and 17 RBIs. Due to surgery on his right shoulder in late 2024 Kim didn't make his season debut until July 4.

Regarding Kim's 2025 stats, Anthopoulos stated, "This contract reflects our belief in him and he's a much better player."

For San Diego (2021–24), Tampa Bay (2025), and Atlanta, Kim had a.242 average with 52 home runs and 217 RBIs.

According to Anthopoulos, he wants Kim to resume the production levels he was able to achieve with the Padres.

"We think we've got a very good chance to get the guy he was with San Diego," Anthopoulos stated, adding that if he has a successful 2026 season and elevates his profile for a larger contract with more years following next season, it will be advantageous for Kim and the Braves.

Anthopoulos stated Come here be the best player you can be, have a fantastic year and get the contract you deserve.

Osvaldo Bido a right-hander was assigned by Atlanta to clear a roster space.

With Kim back, Mauricio Dubón who was acquired from the Houston Astros for Nick Allen in an infielders trade on November 19 will probably be available in a utility role rather than being counted on as the shortstop starting.

Dubón a 31-year-old utility infielder who made 133 appearances for Houston last season batted.241 and won his second Gold Glove. In 2023 he was also awarded a Gold Glove.

Kim's comeback follows outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and the Braves' agreement on Wednesday to sign a two-year $23 million contract that includes a 2028 club option that could increase the deal's value to $26 million over three seasons.

The Braves have had a busy week as they signed two-time All-Star reliever Robert Suarez to a three-year $45 million contract on Thursday.
