Sean McVay Fires Back at Matthew Stafford Retirement Question After NFC Title Loss

After the Los Angeles Rams’ 31-27 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game head coach Sean McVay spoke about quarterback Matthew Stafford future but Reports have suggested Stafford could retire or return in 2026 but he just finished one of the best seasons of his career leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns.

When he asked during a post game press conference if he expects Stafford back next season McVay responded quite bluntly indicating his frustration with the timing of the question If he still wants to play what the hell kind of question is that? McVay said emphasising that the decision should be left to Stafford and not be a topic of post-loss media questioning.

McVay praised Stafford’s strong performance saying the veteran played at a very high level and had a memorable season but he also noted that Stafford performed well even though the Rams fell just short of another Super Bowl appearance.

Stafford who turned 38 next month has not publicly committed to retirement and did not immediately answer whether he plans to play in 2026 After the loss the quarterback suggested it was “too soon” to make any decisions about his future reflecting the emotional moment coming right after elimination.
