Iowa State guard Tamin Lipsey keys crucial rebound in Cyclones' victory

Tamin Lipsey grabs the decisive offensive rebound late in Iowa State's win.

Tamin Lipsey delivered a game-changing offensive rebound and free throw with under two minutes remaining to help Iowa State defeat TCU 78-74 on the road Monday night. Nate Heise drained a 3-pointer moments earlier to give the Cyclones a slim lead they wouldn't relinquish. Lipsey's hustle play extended the advantage and sparked a late 8-2 run to close out the victory.

The Ames native finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes off the bench. His rebound came after TCU's Micah Peavy missed a contested jumper, preserving Iowa State's slim margin at 72-70. Lipsey drew the foul on the putback attempt and converted to push the lead to five.

Iowa State improved to 18-8 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play with the result. The Cyclones snapped a two-game skid behind balanced scoring from Heise (18 points) and Keshad Johnson (16 points). TCU dropped to 16-9 despite 22 points from Chuck Bailey.

Lipsey missed six games earlier this season with a knee sprain but has averaged 11.2 points since returning. His defensive intensity disrupted TCU's backcourt throughout the second half. Iowa State forced 15 turnovers while committing just nine.

Next up, the Cyclones host Oklahoma Saturday afternoon. Lipsey's poise in crunch time underscored his growth as a junior leader for coach T.J. Otzelberger. TCU returns home to face Kansas State.
