CC Sabathia delivers pitch during 2009 postseason start at Yankee Stadium.
New York Yankees scheduled a ceremony to retire CC Sabathia's No. 52 on September 26.
Club officials confirmed the date Thursday, pairing uniform retirement with a plaque unveiling in Monument Park. Sabathia spent 11 seasons in pinstripes from 2009 through 2019.
The left-hander arrived via free agency and anchored rotations through three World Series runs. He posted 134 wins against 88 losses with a 3.80 ERA across 1,694 strikeouts.
Sabathia earned ALCS MVP honors in his first Yankees postseason, tossing 16 innings of two-run ball against the Angels. New York captured the 2009 championship over Philadelphia.
General manager Brian Cashman praised Sabathia's clubhouse presence and big-game reliability. The ace started Game 1 of all three playoff series that championship October.
Ownership selected September 26 to coincide with a home series against old AL East rivals. Pre-game festivities include a video tribute and on-field family introduction.
Sabathia reached 3,000 career strikeouts as a Yankee in 2019 against Arizona. He joined Steve Carlton and Randy Johnson as the third lefty to hit the mark.
The franchise retired 22 numbers previously, including Derek Jeter's No. 2 last year. Sabathia's joins recent honors for Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte in the past decade.
Fans voted Sabathia among the top pitchers in Yankees history during a 2025 poll. His nine-year, $161 million pact defined the post-2009 pitching rebuild.
Current rotation leader Gerrit Cole called Sabathia a mentor during spring camp remarks. The ceremony caps Hall of Fame induction festivities from last summer.
Sabathia confirmed Yankees logo for his Cooperstown plaque in February. He chose New York over Cleveland roots despite a Cy Young there in 2007.
Ticket sales opened online for the occasion with premium seating packages. Monument Park access follows the main event for season-ticket holders.
