Alexander Zverev explains the significance of his most recent ATP title

After their successful run in Mexico, Zverev and Melo now have a 20-25 record as a doubles team.

After 69 minutes of play they lifted the trophy in the Acapulco final defeating Robert Galloway and Alexander Erler 6-3, 6-4.

Marcelo Melo and Alexander Zverev win the "special" Acapulco doubles championship.

After the game Zverev expressed his happiness at the victory stating: Marcelo has been my best friend for more than ten years and we finally won a tournament.

We made it after competing in a few finals. Thus it's unique.

"Thanks to Sascha's family, it's amazing," said Melo, his winning partner.

"They've been together and supporting each other for almost ten years. Thank you also to you, Sascha.

Following his success at Acapulco, what doubles titles has Alexander Zverev won?

Having just won in Rio with Joao Fonseca, veteran Melo is now an ATP Tour doubles champion 42 times.

Zverev's career-high singles ranking was surpassed by the 42-year-old, who was once the world number one in the format.

Despite the fact that the German now has three doubles titles, Zverev has prioritized that format throughout his career.

Zverev's two prior titles came while he was playing with his brother Mischa, which would have also been memorable occasions.

After losing in the Acapulco round of 16, he now focuses on Indian Wells, where he will definitely be aiming for singles success.

The fourth-ranked player in the world had already participated in the Australian Open, so it was only his second tournament of the season.

Zverev had a long run at the first Grand Slam of 2026 in Melbourne before losing heartbreakingly to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals.
