When Venus Williams loses to Diane Parry in the opening round of Indian Wells her recuperation faces yet another challenge

Williams 45, received a wild card to compete in the singles and doubles categories at the tournament in the Southern California desert after losing her last eight WTA singles matches. Thirty years had passed since her 15-year-old debut at Indian Wells in 1996.

The 23 year old Parry who is ranked 111th in the world took the initiative and won the third set with ease after Williams rallied to tie the second set.

Williams participated in the tournament for the tenth time, and for the first time since she lost in the opening round as a wild card in 2024. The seven-time major champion declined a wild card that was offered to him last year. The Southern California native continued, "It's great to play in front of a home crowd, but it's not fun to lose."
