Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage won their doubles match in straight sets giving Great Britain a great 3-0 win over Australia that sent them to the Billie Jean King Cup finals in September
Dart and Burrage beat Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-4 on the hard courts in Melbourne to win the best-of-five qualifying tie. This was their first time working together.
Great Britain had already won both of Friday's singles matches. In her first competition 17 year old Mika Stojsavljevic shocked Talia Gibson who was ranked more than 200 places higher than her in straight sets. Then, Dart came back from a set down to beat Kimberly Birrell. Burrage said "That feels great." "I'm proud of how we played and how we came out and finished that."
Great Britain who made it to the semifinals in 2025, were the underdogs going into the match because they were missing four players who were ranked in the top 100 in singles: Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, Fran Jones and Sonay Kartal.
But they made it to the finals for the third year in a row even though their rankings and experience were different.
Dart and Burrage lost their first service game and fell behind 3-1 but they came back strong winning five games in a row to win the first set.
The second set was all over the place and all four players had trouble with their serves. There were four breaks in a row that led to a score of 3-3. In the ninth game Great Britain made the most important break and Burrage held on to win. They are both very good players. Dart said "They play a lot of doubles and it was our first time playing together."It's crazy because we played really well and making it to the finals feels like a dream come true.
Great Britain is the second team to make it to the eight-team finals in Shenzhen in September. They will join hosts China. They have made it to the last four in the last two tournaments. Australia the loser will play in the playoffs in November.
