Dodgers place Max Muncy on injured list with oblique strain

Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Max Muncy to the 10-day injured list Saturday with a Grade 1 right oblique strain. The 35-year-old third baseman felt discomfort chasing a foul ball in the seventh inning of Friday's 4-3 loss at Toronto.

Muncy appeared in eight games this season. He posted a .216 average with one homer, one RBI, and six walks against 11 strikeouts.

The club recalled utilityman Michael Conforto from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the roster spot. Conforto hit .298 with three homers in six minor-league outings.

Muncy missed 23 games last August with the same injury. He also sat out time last summer with a knee bruise.

Dodgers hold a 6-4 mark atop the NL West. They open a homestand against San Francisco on Monday.

Muncy signed a two-year extension through 2026 last spring. The deal includes a 2027 club option.

He slashed .195/.298/.424 with 15 homers in 92 games last year. Elbow surgery ended his 2024 campaign after 49 games.

Conforto provides outfield cover and bats left-handed. Manager Dave Roberts expects a quick return for Muncy.
