Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post says that one of the best things to come out of the Yankees sweep of the Red Sox was Jazz Chisholm Jr. first home run of the year. His OPS went up by almost 60 points during the series Chisholm said that a small change to his mechanics might have helped him play better during that time. He said that he opened up his stance and moved back from the plate a little. Aaron Boone said this week Probably his best group of at-bats especially against some tough lefties.
Chisholm had his best game of the year last night when he hit his second home run and reached base four times in the Astros' loss. We hope this version of Chisholm stays around.
Steve Schaffer of MLB.com says that Giancarlo Stanton left last night's game in Houston after it looked like he hurt his leg while running the bases. We all know that Stanton will get hurt like this at some point almost every year, but it's still sad when it happens. Later reports said that Stanton's injury was "tightness in the right lower leg," and Boone said it had to do with the calf.
David Schoenfield and Jorge Castillo for ESPN: This week's series at Fenway Park showed how differently the Yankees and Red Sox have done so far this season. ESPN made it clear what has gone well in New York and what has gone wrong in Boston. The Yankees starting rotation and Boston's lack of bop were the main stories. The Red Sox are also worried about their star pitcher Garrett Crochet who has been terrible in his last two starts. Boston will probably get it together at some point, but for now it's not too bad to see the Yankees' rivals eight games behind in the AL East standings.
MLB.com | Shanthi Sepe-Cheperu: Gerrit Cole's steady journey back to the bigs continued on Thursday night. The right hander pitched for High A Hudson Valley and gave up two runs on five hits in 4.1 innings. Cole threw 52 pitches (42 strikes) after throwing 44 pitches in his first rehab start. The Yankees are taking their time with him, and if everything goes according to plan he should be back in the majors in about a month.
Carlos Rodón followed Cole in Hudson Valley last night just like it was 2024. It was his first pro game of 2026. He pitched 4.1 innings without giving up a run struck out four batters and gave up one hit and one walk on 65 pitches. The Yankees think he will only need two more rehab starts before he can rejoin the rotation after having surgery on his elbow that wasn't as serious.
Jason Catania of MLB.com asks what the Yankees should do with Spencer Jones. We've asked this question a lot before and we'll probably ask it a lot more. It's pretty clear what the choices are: move him up to the majors keep him developing at Triple-A or trade him for a veteran player who can help right away. For now the most likely outcome is that Jones stays in the minors to work on the rougher parts of his game. However anything could happen in the summer when the Yankees will probably be looking to make trades.
