Katherine Legge scores last-minute Indy 500/Coke 600 Double deal next week

After the first Indy 500 practice session late in the day reports surfaced that Katherine Legge will attempt the rare Indy 500/Coke 600 Double this year. Motorsport.com has since confirmed the news independently.

The 45-year-old will return for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 in the No. 11 HMD Motorsports/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet for her fifth appearance in the historic event.

But now we learn she also plans to run in the 67th edition of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the same date -- Sunday, May 24. If successful (and weather allows) Legge will be the sixth driver ever to compete in both events on the same day. Legge will also be the oldest woman and oldest non-American driver to ever attempt the Double.

“It’s not something many drivers ever get a chance to try, and I don’t take that opportunity lightly,” Legge said in a press release. “This challenge is about breaking through perceived barriers, taking a risk and trying to do something different. “I’m so incredibly grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing in what this moment stands for and for building a community around it.”

Legge made her eighth career Cup Series start last weekend at Watkins Glen and will again pilot the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet at Charlotte Motor Speedway next weekend.

The effort is being funded by e.l.f. Cosmetics, who is already sponsoring her in this year’s Indy 500.

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is the latest driver to attempt the 1,100-mile Double between IndyCar’s biggest race and NASCAR’s longest. Larson joins the list of Robby Gordon, John Andretti, Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart who have done it. The only driver who has completed every lap is Stewart, and he did it in 2001.

Jones also attempted the Double in 1995, but failed to qualify for the 600.

She said she was interested in trying the Double before last weekend’s Cup race at Watkins Glen, but it would depend on sponsorship and support from e.l.f. Cosmetics. This Double attempt has come together within two weeks of race day, far sooner than anyone expected and it looks like a deal has come together.

Legge’s best finish in the Indy 500 was 22nd in 2012. She may have only made her Cup debut just over a year ago, but she has run several oval races in America’s top stock car racing division. Her best result came in the 2025 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis, where she finished 17th in the best non-drafting result ever for Live Fast Motorsports. It would be Legge’s first start in the Coca-Cola 600, but she raced in the NASCAR O’Reilly race at the track last May.

She’s locked into the Indy 500 with no bumping this year, but we’ll have to wait until next Monday when the official entries for the Coke 600 are released to see if she’ll have to qualify her way into the NASCAR race.
