Paige Bueckers Kelsey Plum make rare WNBA history in Wings’ biggest win of the season

And Sunday night against the Washington Mystics they got it. College Park Center, led by Paige Bueckers, Dallas rolled to a dominating 92-69 win. It is their biggest margin of victory this season. But while this helped the Wings get back to 500 at 2-2 Bueckers quietly did something even bigger along the way.

The 24 year old finished the night with 18 points 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Those are already impressive stats but they also helped the Dallas guard officially join Kelsey Plum as the only players in WNBA history to tally 772 points and 216 assists through their first 40 career games.

Bueckers’ achievement will seem even more impressive when you consider she reached the milestone only four games into her second season after playing 36 games as a rookie in 2025. She also surpassed Caitlin Clark’s scoring total through 40 career games after Clark previously scored 769 points. Clark and Bueckers have been compared for a long time and this latest milestone has only added more fuel to that conversation.

But the fun part of the historic stat? The connection between Paige Bueckers and Kelsey Plum which is one of the league's most fun competitive rivalries.

Bueckers had a breakout 44 point performance against the LA Sparks in August 2025 shooting better than 80% from the field. She finished the night 17 for 21 from the floor the first player in WNBA history to score over 40 points shooting over 80%.

Offensively he dictated the game from beginning to end, whether it was pulling up from deep attacking off the dribble or creating space in the midrange.

But even with Bueckers putting on one of the best scoring performances the league has ever seen, Plum still walked away with a dramatic buzzer-beater to win the game. Since then, the two stars have continued to trade competitive trash talk but also display lots of mutual respect for each other’s game.

So while Bueckers added another historic achievement to her rapidly growing career, the performance also provided Dallas with a win it badly needed.

For the first time all season, the Wings looked exactly in sync on both sides of the floor. And it came, Bueckers said, because of how Dallas responded in practice following its frustrating loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

“We were linked. “We were running on a string,” she said after the win. “I think it began with two very good days of practice, of holding one another accountable, of wanting to be better for one another.

Dallas started 1-2 and lost the first two games of the season and they’ve spent the last few days in practice emphasizing accountability and communication on defense. The Wings came out and held the Mystics to just nine first quarter points and that defensive energy became the bedrock for everything Dallas did well throughout the night.

The Wings forced 19 turnovers, constantly disrupting the rhythm of Washington and converting those extra possessions into easy transition offense. Once Dallas got the game to speed up, the whole game really opened up.

“We’re better when we’re playing with pace, we’re playing a lot faster,” Paige Bueckers said. “And that begins with getting stops so we can get the ball off the rim and play full court.”

Bueckers was the team’s leading scorer but it should be noted she was not the only one to have a super game. Azzi Fudd had her best performance of the season with 12 points off the bench, and Jessica Shepard kept doing the little things that helped Dallas dominate physically. The veteran forward had 12 points 16 rebounds and six assists.

The Wings will look to carry this momentum into a tough three game road trip starting with a game against the Chicago Sky at 8 p.m. CT on May 20th before stops in Atlanta and New York and then coming home to face Las Vegas.
