Paige Bueckers avoids $500 fine following Wings-Dream incident

Bueckers who had seven points seven assists and two steals in the loss was assessed the technical foul in the third. The incident occurred after she clapped hard following a foul by Indya Nivar.

Some fans and viewers questioned the call, especially as it seemed like a normal celebration that other athletes do all the time.

Luckily for Bueckers, the WNBA reversed the technical foul call, Annie Costabile of The Athletic reports.“Multiple sources tell me the tech on Paige Bueckers in the 3rd quarter of the Wings game versus the Dream on Friday will be rescinded.” — Costabile

Bueckers also escaped a $500 fine with the decision. Under WNBA rules a player is fined $500 for each of her first three technical fouls. Technical fouls four through seven are $1,000 apiece and any technical foul after that will be $1,500 apiece.

It was supposed to be Bueckers' first technical foul of the season so she's back to zero.

Bueckers was also glad to see her technical foul rescinded. The Wings star has a “bet” with Wings teammate Alysha Clark that she would not get a tech this 2026 season more than the foul count and the fine that comes with it.“Glad to get that one back,” Bueckers said, according to Doug Feinberg of The Associated Press.
