F1 marshal's viral trackside dive steals show at Canadian GP

A Canadian Grand Prix marshal has stolen the show on social media after a camera moment was branded “the most stylish thing” at the race.

There were a number of tense battles around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve including between Mercedes team-mates Kimi Antonelli and George Russell and Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. But one of the viral moments of the weekend came from a trackside marshal.

On lap 46 the marshal was quick to clear debris from the track and it was his own exit that would grab the attention of fans as he ran back to safety. Instead of struggling back to safety in an awkward way the marshal made a head-first dive through a small opening in the catch fencing at just the right moment throwing the debris through the gap first, perfection.

“I was dying at this live,” one fan commented on Reddit. I guess he looked left, saw the cars thundering straight for him, and got a massive adrenaline rush.Glad that was picked up on the F1 TV feed. “They deserve all the love,” another fan said. “The zoom on the camera at the end was perfect,” another fan commented.

Other comments included: "That little hop at the end before the dive.. *chef's kiss*." "If you don't go for a gap that exists you are no longer a marshal" added another. "I so loved this live I was doing the DiCaprio meme from my couch pointing at the TV" wrote another fan.

Another fan said: “The mystery arm appearing and slinking back into the hole at the end is the cherry on top.

Kimi Antonelli won the race his fourth grand prix win in a row. A delighted Lewis Hamilton joined the Italian driver on the podium in second his best grand prix finish with Ferrari while Max Verstappen took third his first podium finish of 2026.
