Fans everywhere watched Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a two-time NFL MVP, at the track and him grabbing the attention of the live broadcast as he stood at Kyle Larson's pit box during the NASCAR Cup Series event at Naval Base Coronado.
It wasn’t just Mahomes who was there — tight end Travis Kelce was there, too. The eleven-time Pro Bowler was caught chatting on camera and the Prime Sports broadcast team made sure to acknowledge it. Kelce is following his brother Jason’s lead, who also recently attended a NASCAR event and was rumored to be there as well.
It will be NASCAR’s first-ever race at Naval Base Coronado, and the base provides a distinctive waterfront setting. Mahomes and Kelce’s appearance was another reminder of the mainstream appeal that has blossomed around the sport’s biggest events.
The Super Bowl champs are having their last few weeks before training camp starts next month.
