Zimbabwe confirm future captains across all formats

Richard Ngarava has been handed leadership of Zimbabwe’s Test and ODI teams.

Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed a new captaincy structure across its senior national teams, with Richard Ngarava taking over the Test and One-Day International sides and Josephine Nkomo named women’s captain.

Sikandar Raza will continue as the men’s T20I captain, keeping the shortest format under the veteran all-rounder’s leadership.

The changes were recommended by the board’s cricket committee and approved at a meeting in Harare on June 23.

Ngarava had already led the side in the recent one-off Test against Bangladesh, and the new structure now extends his role into both red-ball and 50-over cricket.

Zimbabwe also confirmed the leadership group around the men’s teams, with Brian Bennett named Test vice-captain, Raza set as ODI vice-captain and Ngarava taking the T20I vice-captain role.

On the women’s side, Nkomo will be supported by left-arm seamer Nomvelo Sibanda as deputy.

The announcement gives Zimbabwe defined leadership across all formats as the team continues its busy international schedule
