David Croft applauds Cadillac’s no-excuses attitude after F1 Hungarian GP

David Croft the Sky Sports F1 commentator has praised the new Cadillac F1 team for its resilience and refusal to hide behind its rookie status after another tough weekend for the American outfit at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Cadillac would become the 11th team on the F1 grid in 2026. Backed by General Motors and using Ferrari power units the team entered the grid with a veteran driver line up of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas and modest expectations looking for long-term stability rather than instant points and podiums.

Reliability problems have plagued Cadillac in the first half of the season. The same was true at the Hungarian GP. Both Bottas and Perez retired when their brakes caught fire.

Reviewing the opening half of the campaign on the Sky Sports F1 Show, presenter Craig Slater said the F1 community is giving Cadillac ‘every bit of slack they deserve because it’s the first season’ . But Croft quickly interjected to say that the team doesn’t give itself that kind of leeway. “You can cut the slack, but I don’t think they’ll cut the slack themselves, and this really impressed me,” Croft said. “I spoke to some of the Cadillac guys on the way home and they were gutted about what happened with the brakes on Bottas in Budapest.Another short track, hot weather, brakes caught fire again. They thought they fixed it and they’re like, ‘No, we need to get to the bottom of this. ‘This is not right.

They don’t say, ‘New team so go easy on us. They think, 'No, we've got to get on and get this sorted. I like that attitude. “That’s what you want to see in formula one. ‘We have a problem. Go out there and sort it out.' So I hope so because there is going to be more hot tracks coming their way. Singapore and Malaysia to name two.”
