Ajax in race to sign Barcelona winger as PSG-bound attacker replacement

The Dutch club are preparing for a busy end to the transfer window and could do business with Barcelona again after already signing Marc-Andre ter Stegen on loan.

Ajax’s attention turns immediately to Godts, after PSG saw a €50 million bid rejected. The Eredivisie giants want more money although the Belgian winger has already agreed terms with the French champions.

If the transfer goes through Ajax are expected to reinvest the money in their squad. Noa Lang from Napoli is still the main target but Bardghji has also emerged as a potential target.

Previously Ajax had dismissed a move with Barcelona preferring a permanent deal to a loan but a potential financial boost from a Godts sale could change that position.

Meanwhile, another young Barcelona player, Jofre Torrents, is still expected to join Ajax on loan.

Barcelona want a sale not loan

The next few days should see a decision on Bardghji's future. The Swede wants a loan move and to return to Barcelona next season.

The Catalan club, however, are pushing for a permanent sale with a buy-back clause, so they can profit immediately on an asset they signed for just around €3 million, while still having long-term control of the player.

Bardghji has been one of Barcelona’s best players in pre-season and Hansi Flick has reportedly been impressed by his freshness and attacking qualities.

But the German coach has made it clear regular minutes will be hard to come by following the arrivals of Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon.

"The player and the club have agreed that the best solution for him is to move somewhere where he can play regularly.

His representatives are now looking at projects that would assure him of regular playing time and that fit Barcelona’s preferred transfer model of a permanent deal with a buy-back option.

Several clubs are keen

Bardghji is still very popular in Europe. Premier League clubs are still keeping an eye on the Swedish kid but no-one has made an offer that would allow Barcelona to retain future control with a buy-back clause.

Marseille still want him in France and there could be opportunities in Spain too if other transfer business opens up space at a Champions League club.

The Blaugrana have had opportunities to move Bardghji earlier this summer but both the club and the player have decided to wait for the right project.

The decision is expected soon, with the winger expected to have a new club by next week following Barcelona's friendly in Italy.
