NASCAR Cup Series team salutes Kyle Busch with unique paint scheme

For Saturday night's Cup Series race Richard Childress Racing is debuting a special paint scheme to honor the fallen champion.

Austin Hill was named last May to replace Busch and will drive the No. 33 Morgan & Morgan Chevrolet. Busch will have a photo of himself taking a bow on the hood of Hill’s car — a tribute the two-time Cup Series champion took after every victory.

On Monday, the social media team at Richard Childress Racing posted a teaser video of the special paint scheme that will adorn Hill’s car. Watch the video here. “A bow that meant so much. ❤️ This weekend we honor Kyle by showing his signature bow on the hood. A small gesture. A permanent legacy,” RCR said.

Richmond Raceway was one of Busch’s better tracks so this Saturday’s race is appropriate for the paint scheme. Busch won six times at the 0.75-mile Virginia short track including four straight spring race wins.

His latest Richmond victory came in September, a race where “Rowdy” started in the back after failing a post-race inspection and worked his way to the front when the checkered flag flew.

Busch’s death still has the NASCAR world in shock. Busch, the winningest driver in NASCAR history, died May 21 after a battle with severe pneumonia that turned into sepsis.

Since his passing during the 2026 season, there have been many tributes to the 63-time Cup Series winner. Last Sunday at Iowa Speedway, Ryan Blaney had a special M&M’s helmet, a sponsor that goes way back with Busch’s time driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Every NASCAR race since Busch's death has observed a silent Lap 8, with many fans in the stands holding up eight fingers in tribute to the racing legend.

Richard Childress Racing driver looking for historic Richmond win Saturday

This Saturday nite the NASCAR Cup Series circuit heads to the Richmond Raceway and one driver could pull off a historic win.

Austin Dillon has won the last two Cup Series races at Richmond. The driver of the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet won a controversial finish in 2024 by intentionally wrecking Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final lap.

Dillon backed that up with an impressive performance and a second straight Richmond win last year, this time without any controversy.

This Saturday Dillon will attempt a third straight win at NASCAR’s top short track. That would tie a feat by his late teammate, Kyle Busch, who won four straight Richmond spring races from 2009-2012.

"Dillon will look to carry the momentum from a solid 10th-place run at the Iowa Speedway this past Sunday into a track that has brought him a ton of success in the last two years.

The win would be emotional for RCR, as it would be their first Cup win since the passing of Busch. It's certainly possible Dillon could end up in victory lane Saturday nite, having won the last two Richmond races.
