Ryan Sieg finally got his moment Friday nite at Daytona after 424 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starts and five runner-up finishes grinding away in the sport.
Man, was it worth the wait.
Sieg won the Winn-Dixie 250 in overtime, passing Austin Hill and Carson Kvapil in the final laps for his first O'Reilly Series win.
But the best part of the story is the car.
Sieg wasn't driving his usual No. 39. He gave that ride to Andy Jankowiak for the Daytona race and got into the No. 38 instead. Then he went out and took the damn thing.
That speaks volumes about Ryan Sieg.
This is not some big Mooresville operation with an army of employees and unlimited resources. This is RSS Racing a family run team from Sugar Hill, Georgia slugging it out with the giants of NASCAR.
And that's why it's so easy to cheer for Sieg.
He is one of those guys that just keeps showing up, keeps building race cars, keeps believing the break through is coming.
It finally did Friday nite at the World Center of Racing.
This was more than a win for a Georgia racing family and a small shop in Sugar Hill,
A bloody fairy story.
