Hetmyer 111* keeps Amazon Warriors undefeated

Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Trinbago Knight Riders by nine runs in a rain-affected CPL 2026 match at Port of Spain thanks to an incredible 111 not out by Shimron Hetmyer. Amazon Warriors made 185 for 5 in their 16 overs a revised target for TKR of 182. They ended on 172 for 7. The victory kept Amazon Warriors who have four wins from four games in the tournament – unbeaten.

Amazon Warriors also jumped to second spot on the points table behind Antigua and Barbuda Falcons who are on nine points but have lost four of their eight games while TKR are fifth with five defeats in seven matches.

With the game reduced to 16 overs a side, Hetmyer made it a one-man assault. He made his way to Amazon Warriors at 19, hitting 8 fours and 9 sixes as he led the way to a 27 ball fifty and 40-ball hundred. He ended up with an insane strike rate of 258.13 off just 43 balls.

Romario Shepherd arrived late to the party but hammered 27 off seven balls, including two fours and three sixes. Their explosive cameo saw Amazon Warriors rack up 94 runs in the last five overs to turn a modest total into a daunting one.

TKR began their chase in a flier. Captain Nicholas Pooran hit a quickfire 43 from 16 balls including three fours and four sixes while Alex Hales kept the chase alive with a blazing 55 off 24. The pair threatened to take the game away from Amazon Warriors but Pooran fell at the start of the seventh over and three balls later Mohammad Nabi trapped Jyd Goolie lbw for a duck to leave them at 67 for 4. Then Imran Tahir got his lone wicket in the next over and TKR were in trouble at 68 for 5.

The asking rate was well past 12 an over now and Hales briefly got some support from Akeal Hosein to carry the score past 100 but he gave a return catch to Khary Pierre and Hales smoked a few sixes to bring the equation to 40 required from 12. But Shamar Joseph’s yorker at 144.1kmh was too hot for Hales and TKR’s 30 runs from the final two overs left them short.

Nabi was the difference with the ball taking three for 20 in his three overs. However the highlight of the chase was when Glenn Phillips finished a one-handed stunner after losing sight of the ball at deep midwicket to send Sunil Narine back for 1.
