Lee Hyun-jung Leads South Korea Into Asian Games Final After Iran Victory

South Korea’s men’s basketball team has reached the final of the Asian Games after a convincing semi final victory over Iran.

The victory at the Aichi International Arena in Nagoya put South Korea a win away from its first Asian Game basketball gold since 2014 and secured a silver medal at least.

Lee Hyun-jung was the leading star with a game high 26 point 14 rebound and four assist.

He was 7-for-13 from three-point range and scored 12 point in a strong third quarter.

South Korea started conservatively leading 12-8 after a low scoring first period but the squad then freed up extra space in the second quarter and took a 36-24 lead into the half.

Iran never got its shooting touch going the entire game. South Korea proceeded to pull away after halftime with long range efforts from Lee Hyun-jung and Lee Jung-hyun.

South Korea led 61-37 going into the fourth quarter and was able to control the closing minutes.

South Korea also made 14 three pointers while Iran managed just two from 23 attempts from long range.

The result capped off another impressive showing after wins over Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Japan in the group round and a 114-80 quarterfinal win against Jordan.

South Korea will play either China or Japan in Sunday's final with the gold medal now in sight after 12 years. The final is set for Sunday evening in Nagoya.

Current coverage confirms the semifinal result, Lee Hyun-jung’s 26-point effort, South Korea’s three-point shooting, and Sunday’s final.
