Coco Gauff has fired back at suggestions that her TikTok activities might be impacting her tennis results, insisting there is no link between the two.
The American star is one of the most active young players on social media, often posting videos and moments from her life off the court.
That prominence has also led to remarks from some who feel professional athletes should be spending less time online. Gauff is a major opponent of that idea.
“It’s still a pretty rigorous training schedule for me,” she said. “A lot of hours on court practicing and in the gym working.
That’s a much less burden than she has most days, she said, adding that making a TikTok video might take a matter of minutes.
Social media is also an avenue for Gauff to communicate with her fans and display a part of her personality that might not be seen at events.
The 22-year-old has spoken before on how tennis and social media are an evolving relationship.
She feels players may draw new fans by opening up more about their personality outside of competition.
Her remarks come following a busy spell that featured the 2026 US Open. Gauff made the semi-finals in New York before losing to Elena Rybakina.
Gauff has also had to deal with other social media concerns lately, such as an account pretending to be her and trying to swindle her supporters.
She cautioned followers she would never ask them to contribute money through social channels.
The American enjoys keeping a strong online presence while competing at the highest level.
Gauff sees TikTok not as a distraction but another part of the relationship she has with her fans.
Her recent statement is clear: she doesn’t think social media dictates what occurs in her matches.
