Project B Brings Women’s Basketball Entertainment and Culture to Hangzhou

Project B is gearing up to launch its new global women’s basketball tour in China with Hangzhou chosen as the first stop of its first season.

The event is scheduled for Jan. 19-24, 2027 and will include six women’s teams competing five-on-five.

Entertainment and cultural events will also be provided at the event, allowing fans an opportunity to enjoy the sport of basketball away from the court.

Project B will kick off its season with a draft and training camp in Seoul from Jan. 6-12.

Following the China event, the tour will continue to Valencia in March before heading to Tokyo later that month.

The initiative has already attracted a few famous players.

Chinese star Li Meng is likely to join, and WNBA players Nneka Ogwumike, Azzi Fudd, Alyssa Thomas and Sophie Cunningham have signed with the league. South Korean sensation Park Ji-hyun has also joined.

Project B was developed by technology professionals Grady Burnett and Geoff Prentice.

Former WNBA champion Alana Beard is the chief basketball officer, with former NBA star Russell Westbrook serving as a co-founder and chief strategy officer.

The league will use a travelling model, taking basketball to fans across the world rather than holding the competition in one place.

Project B also plans to steer clear of conflicts with established basketball schedules, offering athletes another opportunity to compete and connect with new audiences across the globe.
