Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal's Football camp during the current international break. The decision came after Ronaldo did not play in Portugal's 2–1 win over Norway. He also did not join his teammates after the game to greet the fans.
The move led to reports that Ronaldo was unhappy with coach Jorge Jesus. Jesus denied that there was a fight between him and Ronaldo. He said Ronaldo knew before the Norway game that he would not start.
Jesus also said Ronaldo did not refuse to train. He explained that the player was doing special exercises for his body and strength. Ronaldo later confirmed that he had left the camp. He said he made the choice after speaking with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The Portugal star said he would explain the full reasons for his decision at a later time. He also wished his teammates good luck in their next games. Goncalo Ramos scored the winning goal against Norway. Jesus said Ramos would also be his first choice against Denmark.
The coach said Ronaldo could still play if the team needed him. However, Ronaldo has now left the camp. The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed his departure. The team will continue preparing for its next games with the other 24 players.
Ronaldo remains focused on his international career. The 41 year old had thought about retiring after the World Cup but decided to continue playing as he aims to reach 1,000 career goals.
