Merab Dvalishvili, the bantamweight champion, will defend his title for the third time in the UFC 320 main event against Cory Sandhagen.
The co-main event of UFC 320 on October 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will be for the bantamweight title. In his third title defense, champion Merab Dvalishvili fights Cory Sandhagen, who is ranked No. 4.
Dvalishvili is a strong betting favorite going into the battle, but he understands that Sandhagen is not an easy opponent.
A lot of people think this struggle will be simple for me, but it's not. It's a new fight for me. Cory is a tough opponent. Dvalishvili told MMAJunkie, "I have a lot of respect for him as a fighter and a person."
"Cory Sandhagen is a tough opponent. It's hard to stop him. He plays games where he needs to give up. He has games where you knock people unconscious. He has amazing cardio, good footwork, good takedown defense, and I could go on and on.
Dvalishvili aims to be the first guy to knock out Sandhagen if everything goes as planned.
"I'm looking for my first knockout because I'm working on my striking. We'll see." The champion remarked, "I'm working on my striking, and this fight is mostly going to be on the feet." "Of course I'm going to hit him a few times, and that's the goal, but it's an MMA fight, so we have to be ready for anything."
Dvalishvili wants a speedy turnaround if he wins on October 4. He wants to fight again in December. This would be his fourth title defense this year, and he already has an opponent in mind.
"I want to urge UFC to let me fight for the fourth time this year. If I win, Dvalishvili said, "I have to win this fight first, and I'm very focused because I don't think it's going to be an easy fight for me."
"I want to come back quickly and give Petr Yan his fight if I win this one. He's the clear contender right now and the most deserving guy in my weight class."
