The first place I saw the news that WWE was changing the John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar main event at Wrestlepalooza was on ClutchPoints.
WWE seems to be revising the main event of Wrestlepalooza. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar will end the show, even though there were indications that it would not.
Pat McAfee talked up the Cena vs. Lesnar battle at Wrestlepalooza on his show. But he did say that it will start the show, not end it.
McAfee teased, "He (Lesnar) and Cena are going to fight one last time here in Indianapolis, Indiana. It's going to be must-see, it's going to steal the show, and it's going to be talked about for generations and generations." "And that fight will be the first thing that happens in the episode. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar will be the first match of the ESPN-WWE era at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
"This is obviously huge. What a way to start the best and smartest partnership I've ever seen between ESPN and WWE, and also, two GOATs going at it," he said.
ESPN is doing everything it can to promote the match between Cena and Lesnar. Chris Fowler talked about the match on the most recent Monday Night Football show.
But this does go against what has been said before. Joe Tessitore has already said that Cena and Lesnar would be the main event on SportsCenter. He might have said the wrong thing, or WWE might have modified their plans a few days before the event.
If John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar isn't the main event at WWE Wrestlepalooza, what will it be?
McAfee didn't say which match would end the show. There are four other matches on the card that have been confirmed thus far. The most likely choice is the mixed tag team bout between real-life husband and wife pairs CM Punk and AJ Lee and Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
It means that Lee is back in the ring after more than ten years. She came back to WWE on Friday Night SmackDown on September 5, 2025.
The Usos (Jey and Jimmy Uso) will also get back together to fight Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed of the Vision. Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer will fight for the Women's World Championship, which is now empty.
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre are also fighting for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Because they are two of WWE's biggest talents, it is possible that they will be the main event.
