Elina Svitolina, once ranked third, stated that she will conclude her tennis season early due to the fact that she is "not in the right emotional space."
Svitolina posted on Instagram and then posted a statement on the WTA Tour's website, saying, "I haven't been feeling like myself lately." "I am ending my season here because I don't feel ready to play."
Svitolina, who is currently in 13th place, stated that she needs time to recuperate.
"I want to fight with everything I have and give it my all on the court for the fans, the game, and myself," she stated when she returned to the court.
With a 35–14 record with one title—the WTA 250 clay tournament in Rouen, France in April—Svitolina had a successful 2025. She also advanced to the French Open and Australian Open quarterfinals.
However, she lost her first match in Cincinnati and her first-round match at the U.S. Open after making it to the quarterfinals in Montreal.
Svitolina talked up about the cruel internet abuse she received from irate gamblers following her defeat to Naomi Osaka in Montreal.
Before falling short against Italy's Jasmine Paolini, Svitolina assisted Ukraine in reaching the Billie Jean King Cup semifinals in China last week.
In 2021, 31-year-old Svitolina wed French veteran Gael Monfils, and the two welcomed a daughter, Skai, in 2022.
Beatriz Haddad Maia, a fellow player, stated that she will conclude her 2025 season and that she requires a prolonged period of recovery.
"I'm posting this to let you know that I'm finishing up my 2025 season a bit early so I can give my body and mind more time to recover," the Brazilian player stated. "You can be confident that I will return stronger and that the best is still to come!"
